Speechcraft

Toastmasters have a extensive educational program to help members improve their public speaking skills. New members may request a mentor who will help them with the first three speeches and help with the jitters that accompany a public speaking.
Competent Communicator
On joining, a member receives the The Competent Communicator Manual which consists of the following 10 projects The basic Toastmasters manual - with 10 speech projects - is designed to develop your skills one step at a time. Each speech will build upon what you have learned in your preceding speeches.

Each project calls on you to prepare a speech on a subject of your own choosing with the use of certain speaking principles. Each manual project lists the objectives for that speech and includes a written checklist for your evaluator to use when evaluating the speech. A speech is prepared with a topic chosen from their own interests, which, at the same time, fulfills their goals and objectives for that speech.

The purpose of the extensive preparation and commentary is to show you what you are doing well and what you need to work on. You can take these lessons home so you are constantly improving both inside and outside the club. After completing this guide a speaker earns a Competent Communicator award.
