Community

Toastmasters is an international orgnisation with over 230,000 members in more than 11,500 clubs throughout the world. Clubs are divided into districts which are subdivided into divisions and then areas.

Due to geographical constraints our club is part of the Swiss Division, which is part of the European District. Other clubs in the Area are in Basel, Zürich In Germany there are also several clubs, amongst others in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe and Darmstadt. In total there are over 80 clubs on the European Continent. Twice a year, clubs get together for a round of contests. Contests are conducted on the club level, and 2 winners continue to the area contest. From there on 2 winners proceed to the District Conference and perhaps to the international contest.

In the fall season (October-November) the contest has a Humorous Speech, Table topics and Evaluation Contest while the Spring Season covers Inspirational Speeches and again Table Topics and Evaluation. During an evaluation contest a contestant must evaluate a target speaker and is then judged on the quality of his evaluation.

This season, the area contest will be held in Bern on 12 October.
